The university's mechanical fabrication facilities house industrial-grade CNC lathes and milling centers where students acquire practical fabrication skills. The Junior Lab Engineer assists senior instructors in setting up machinery, guiding practical exercises, and maintaining workshop productivity.
Operational Responsibilities and Machining Scope
The Junior Lab Engineer supports daily CNC workshop operations and student hands-on training. Primary duties include:
- Assisting in workpiece clamping, raw material preparation, tool loading, and coordinate system zero-setting on CNC machines.
- Executing verified CNC programs, monitoring machining cycles, and ensuring surface finish tolerances.
- Assisting students during practical laboratory exercises with tool handling, measuring instruments (vernier calipers, height gauges), and safety rules.
- Performing daily machine cleaning, swarf removal, coolant level checks, and slideway oil replenishment.
- Maintaining workshop tooling inventories, cutting inserts, end mills, drills, and personal protective equipment.
