Technical Scope and Network Management Responsibilities
The Network Administrator is responsible for enterprise network architecture, security configurations, and daily network troubleshooting. Primary operational duties include:
- Administering enterprise routers, layer-3 switches, next-generation firewalls, wireless access controllers, and structured fiber optic backbones.
- Configuring Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), Quality of Service (QoS) rules, bandwidth allocation policies, and secure site-to-site VPN tunnels.
- Monitoring network health and traffic throughput using industry-standard SNMP monitoring utilities to proactively mitigate connectivity bottlenecks.
- Implementing endpoint security protocols, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), access control lists (ACLs), and automated network vulnerability audits.
- Managing regular network firmware upgrades, disaster recovery contingencies, and technical hardware inventory across all university buildings.
