Institutional Context & Operational Scope
The Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project (1,410 MW) is a critical national energy asset constructed on Tunnel 4 of Tarbela Dam on the Indus River. The Operations & Maintenance organization at Tarbela maintains heavy Francis hydro-turbines, high-pressure hydraulic governor systems, inlet butterfly valves, and drainage pumps, ensuring high availability during summer peak discharge seasons.
Standard Operational Scope & Professional Duties
The Junior Technician (Mechanical) carries out preventive maintenance, mechanical dismantling, overhauling, and testing of turbine and generator auxiliary systems. Key duties include inspecting turbine runner clearance, servicing high-pressure oil piping, checking guide vane servomotors, replacing pump mechanical seals, aligning drive shafts, testing hydraulic crane winches, and assisting mechanical engineers during major overhaul shutdowns.
