Lab Assistant (Biology/Physics/Chemistry) — Army Public School & College Fort Road Rawalpindi (APS&C Jobs 2025)
Role Summary
Army Public School & College (APS&C) Fort Road, Rawalpindi seeks a Lab Assistant (Biology/Physics/Chemistry) to run safe, well-organized science laboratories for secondary and higher secondary classes. You’ll prepare apparatus and reagents, support teachers during practicals, maintain equipment in working order, and keep documentation compliant with institutional SOPs. Candidates with prior experience in renowned educational institutions—especially APS&C—are encouraged to apply.
Why this role matters
- Practical work transforms theory into hands-on learning, building curiosity, precision, and scientific thinking.
- A disciplined lab environment minimizes risk, protects assets, and supports fair, consistent assessment during practical exams.
- With reliable setups and accurate records, teachers can focus on instruction quality, and students gain confidence handling experiments.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Lab Readiness
- Open/close labs on schedule; ensure benches, gas/water lines, fume hoods (where applicable), and safety gear (goggles, gloves, coats) are available.
- Lay out apparatus trays per section/period; label stations, slides, and samples for Biology; circuit boards/meters for Physics; glassware and titration setups for Chemistry.
- Prepare lesson packs (SOP cards, risk notes, observation sheets) so classes can start on time.
Reagent & Specimen Preparation
- Prepare standard solutions, indicators, buffers; verify concentrations and label with composition, date, and hazard class.
- Handle biological specimens (slides, models, charts) with proper preservation and hygiene.
- Maintain a chemical register with CAS numbers, MSDS references, storage compatibility, and expiry monitoring.
Equipment Care & Calibration
- Calibrate balances, timers, thermometers, pH meters, microscopes, multimeters, and Vernier instruments; keep logs and stickers up to date.
- Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, greasing stopcocks, replacing tubing, checking Bunsen burners/wiring) and escalate repairs to vendors when needed.
- Maintain spare kits (fuses, leads, bulbs, washers) to reduce downtime.
Safety, Compliance & Waste Disposal
- Enforce lab safety rules: PPE usage, no eating/drinking, controlled access to chemicals and glassware.
- Display and follow MSDS guidance; keep eyewash/sand buckets, fire blanket/extinguishers ready and inspected.
- Segregate and dispose of waste correctly: acid/alkali neutralization, heavy-metal residues, broken glass sharps, biological waste, and solvent containers as per SOPs.
- Conduct and document safety drills; keep incident/near-miss registers.
Classroom & Exam Support
- Assist teachers during practicals: distribute materials, demonstrate safe technique, and monitor benches for correct procedure.
- Configure exam settings (numbered stations, sealed reagent sets, identical apparatus) to ensure integrity and fairness.
- Prepare result sheets (readings, calculations) templates and assist in collection after each session.
Inventory & Documentation
- Maintain stock ledgers: receipts, issues per class, and closing balances; flag reordering needs with lead times.
- Keep asset registers (microscopes, meters, glassware counts); conduct term-end stock verification with reconciliation notes.
- Compile monthly reports: classes supported, experiments conducted, equipment downtime, safety observations, and consumption trends.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: BS/B.Sc in Biology/Physics/Chemistry (or related field).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in science labs at secondary/higher secondary level; APS&C background preferred.
- Technical Fluency: Practical methods (microscopy, titrations, calorimetry, optics, circuits), safe chemical handling, and fundamentals of measurement & error.
- Digital Skills: MS Office (Excel for stock and calibration logs; Word for SOPs; PowerPoint for safety briefings).
Core Competencies
- Safety-first mindset: anticipates hazards, corrects unsafe behavior, and documents incidents.
- Organization & accuracy: labelled shelves, FIFO stock rotation, clear bench layouts, and tidy post-class resets.
- Communication: calm guidance to students; clear coordination with teachers and admin.
- Problem-solving: quick fixes for common issues (air bubbles in burettes, misaligned optics, loose terminals).
- Integrity & discipline: respects access controls, maintains transparent records, and follows chain-of-custody for exam materials.
What Success Looks Like (First 90–180 Days)
- Zero missed periods due to lab readiness; experiments begin on time with complete materials.
- Calibration logs 100% up to date; fewer instrument-related reattempts during practicals.
- Incident rate reduced through refreshers and visible safety signage.
- Inventory accuracy verified at term end with reconciled ledgers and minimal unexplained losses.
Preferred Exposure (Nice to Have)
- Experience with board-prescribed practicals (SSC/HSSC), viva facilitation, and record notebooks.
- Familiarity with microscopy imaging, basic data logging, or low-cost experimental aids.
- Participation in science fairs, clubs, or demonstration days.
Documents to Submit
- Updated CV with recent passport-size photograph.
- CNIC copy and attested academic/experience certificates.
How to Apply
- Method: Submit a hard-copy application with required documents.
- Deadline: 12 November 2025.
- Address: Principal, Army Public School & College, Fort Road, Rawalpindi 46000, Punjab, Pakistan.
- Queries: 051-5586161 Ext 117 (office hours).
