The Pakistan Armed Forces conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Fatah-2 Extended-Range (ER) hypersonic guided missile system on Tuesday, marking a major technological advancement in the country's conventional precision-strike capabilities and stand-off operational deterrence.
According to an official statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the weapon system was tested with comprehensive mission objectives. The flight test validated advanced flight dynamics, terminal hypersonic velocity, and precision target engagement across extended operational ranges.
Avionics, Trajectory Maneuverability, and Air Defense Evasion
The Fatah-2 extended-range variant incorporates state-of-the-art avionics, dual-mode satellite navigation, and an indigenous inertial guidance system capable of delivering pinpoint accuracy against deep strategic targets. A defining technological feature highlighted by defense officials is the missile's unpredictable flight trajectory and terminal mid-course maneuverability.
Unlike classic parabolic ballistic missiles whose interception points can be calculated by multi-layered air defense systems, the Fatah-2 executes aerodynamic pull-up maneuvers and trajectory course corrections within the upper atmosphere. Military analysts note that this capability is specifically engineered to evade and defeat modern anti-ballistic missile (ABM) interceptors and hostile radar tracking grids across the regional theater.
Bolstering Army Rocket Force Command Conventional Deterrence
The successful test significantly expands the operational inventory of the Pakistan Army Rocket Force Command (ARFC), enabling precision engagement of adversary command-and-control centers, hardened communications nodes, logistical hubs, and forward airbases without requiring the deployment of manned fighter aircraft.
The flight test was witnessed by the Commander of the Army Rocket Force Command, alongside senior military officers, defense scientists, and aerospace engineers directly involved in the system's design and manufacture. Observers commended the technical maturity of the platform and the seamless coordination demonstrated across tracking telemetry stations.
National Leadership Praises Indigenous Defense Engineering
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir congratulated the troops, participating scientists, and engineers on the landmark achievement.
Civilian and military leadership emphasized that Pakistan's ongoing modernization of conventional rocket artillery and hypersonic guidance platforms is strictly defensive in nature, aimed at preserving regional strategic equilibrium and deterring aggression.
